Emma Stapleton-Thornell, PhD
Research Assistant Professor: Stapleton lab
Biography
Research interests: Our lab studies the role of particulate matter on airway innate immunity. I have led collaborative projects assessing the effect of everyday exposures on lung disease, including the influence of residential biomass cook-smoke on female cooks in southeastern India, the effect of residential particulate matter from residences of those suffering COPD on airway innate immunity, and particulate matter’s effect on coronavirus infection. My goal is to define the burden of air pollution on respiratory disease, to reduce exposure to impaired air quality, and to assess whether interventions improve pulmonary outcomes.
Sustainability interests: Energy efficiency, Biohazardous waste reduction, Reducing single-use plastics
